BP oly got about 6000 barrels of crude the first 24 hours. Keep in mind the cap has vents that are open so the pressure was reduced while they placed the cap over the head of the bop stack. They will capture a lot more when they feel it is safe to start closing the vents. I would want them to have whatever holddown device they have planned, securely in place before they start closing vents. If they don't have that accomplished, the cap will be blown off. Then how much crude will they save? They want to eliminate as much crude from the sea as possible, but they need to do it without loosing the cap or they will be continually screwed. I know everyone wamts to see the clean up move rapidly ahead, but to be successful, the source of the leak has to be stopped. I am glad it was in the spring because they may have the situation in hand before the fall migration of waterfowl occurs.
