Actually those in the oil industry know that BP has a HORRIBLE safety record. A few years ago one of their plants on the gulf coast blew killing several dozen workers. That plant was allowed to reopen with over 400 safety violations that to this day it has not addressed. Thing about it is all the US goverment can do is fine them because they are British Petroleum, and are not based in this country. Amazingly enough the goverment wont even do that. BP is a joke in the gulf coast region as the worst of the worst, most oil field workers would rather starve than work for them because the conditions are so bad.
