Many years ago I bought two .45 caliber Kentucky-type percussion rifle kits for $30 each as the store was closing out their kits. I learned much on kit #1 and donated it to a neighbor for a mantle-piece decoration.
Kit #2 turned out far better than #1 and I shot it for several years with great satisfaction. Kits are a real challenge and take lots of intense work per my experience. If I were to do it all over again, I would buy a functioning arm off the rack and spare myself the hassle. Remember, there are no warranties on kits. Buy a gun off the rack and enjoy a warranty if things are not right with the arm. Just my humble opinion.
