New pistol recommendations

OK, I think I'm in the market for a new pistol. I'm not settled on caliber or type. Will be my first real handgun that I intend on keeping. Looking for suggestions from any and all. Found a Colt Double Eagle Mk II/Series90 here in town in excellent condition for $525. Don't know that I want to go that steep for a used weapon. Like a Ruger GP100 in .357 mag too and don't know much about anything else. If an automatic I think I would like to stick with either a .45ACP or .40 S&W. and prefer the .357 in a revolver. Let's here from all of you. Maybe someone even has something they are getting ready to part with. Thanks all.
