300 wsm or 338 wsm

Im still new when it comes to hunting but afriend of mine whants to to take me bear hunting in Canada. So I have been looking at rifles, the guy at the gun shop says that a 300 wsm would be a good choice and an all aroud good gun. But on anuther web sight I read that for bear hunting you should have nothing less than 338 wsm. Can any one help me with this problem and may be recomend a good reasonly priced gun.
