I think that big buck is messin with my head...

First off...I aint outdone hubby yet. In fact, aint killed nothin else.
Findin time to hunt has been mighty tough but Saturday, me and hubby went out for about 3 hours saturday mornin for a deer drive. He was drivin dogs in a thick patch of pines behind the house where the deer go durin the gun season cause they never get bothered there. We took the beagles, rabbit dogs, but even if they run rabbit, it might be enough to get that buck outta there.
It was 19 degrees too...cold but beautiful.

I sat by the creek, the only open woods between 2 batches of pines and 2 freinds was sittin on the other side of the pines in some open hardwoods. Well...after some beautiful rabbit runs..they finally kicked the buck out...but he is old fer a reason.
He got to the edge of the pines (which by the way are about 10ft tall and thick as peanut butter with all the undergrowth) and he didnt wanna hit the open. uh uh no way. So, realizin those "dumb" dogs wont runnin him, he stood there for i dont know how long lookin at me. Hubby passed not 30 yards in the pines hollerin like ya do when drivin dogs, and the buck never moved.
I really dont know how long he was watchin me...but trollin the woods with my eyes...I saw his backabout 3 ft or so in the pines...and almost at the same time..he had enough and all i saw was horn...ALOT of horn...turned around and went right back into the pines where hubby and the dogs were lol.

I had a hell flew in me moment, and i figured i could at least let the other 2 on the other side of the pines try to get a shot at him, so I got up and made a drive too.
To no avail.
So....there he still is...in them pines he been livin in the past 5 years that I know of. Nobody hunts em, cause nobody else can get to em. Still huntin in em is impossible. oh yeah, it might help iffin i take DEER dogs next time too LOL

I got till the first week in January but I dont get to hunt that much.
Without standers, a good drive is worthless, cause eventually, you might run him outta there fer good....so you make em few and you make em count lol
Anyway, I hope ya'lls season been doin good! Been seein alot of nice bucks on here so far this year, congrats to all. Fer the rest of us, we gotta tighten up and fly right.
HC needs a shirttail wall too btw.

Well, LilRed, keep that in mind for a few weeks from now and do another drive & the same thing -- 'cept this time sit closer to those pines and intercept him in your sights!

Course, next time he won't do that again, but it's worth a try, Waidmannsheil, Dom.
