Getting Started

About a month ago as I was really starting the hunt for a Lab. A close friend discovered he had liver cancer and we now know that his days are numbered. He will probably only be with us a few more weeks. So to offer a helping hand I took over the daily chores at his kennel (cleaning poop & feeding). As a token of his apprieciation he gave me a 12 week old liver female Elhew Pointer. My friend is very experienced with dogs and well I have none. He will not be around to help me train her. So my question is where do I begin?
