need coon help
well my trappin season has been really fun......i started very late [ march 1]......... i bought 6 #1 dukes and 6 330 dukes. i have cought 2 beavers since march first, but the thing i have had most fun with is trying to catch those smart little critters called coons. i havent caught a thing this season in my leg traps, and there is my problem. im trying to catch a coon before season ends march 31. i have been baiting with corn on a creek. is that a good bait choice. when i ran my traps this morning 1 was tripped and some others the corn was eaten. i have staked and tied my traps to trees. also is it a good idea to scatter dead leaves over my trap or leave it uncovered. thank u for reading my post...... but plz help me.

Try fish
If you can get to town get some sardines.Cheap fish flavored canned cat food will also work. Dig a pocket set into the creek bank that has some water flowing directly under your pocket. Shave the bank flat up and down. Put bait far back into the pocket so the ol masked bandit will have to work a little getting at it. Set 2 traps guarding the entrance to your pocket. If it were earlier in the season I would suggest making 2 sets . Don't be surprised if you have to skin a coon in the morning. Best of luck just |
