I would try it to see if it fits. Then it may be possible to use 2 3/4" shells in it, but not 3". I bought a Hastings 3" barrel at Cabelas for an 870 12 gauge 2 3/4" receiver. Cabelas assured me it would work OK. It fits and functions fine with 2 3/4" shells. My preference would be a 2 3/4" barrel, but could not find one. All the best...

3" on a 2 3/4"
The 3 inch bbl will fit and function on the 2 3/4" gun just fine. What it will do however is beat the gun up pretty badly(if you shoot 3" shells in it regularly). The differences in the 2 are minimal but still different. The piston is heavier and there is a different buffer in the bolt and a few other little things. The preferred way to trade bbls on a 1100 is to have a 3" gun and trade 2 3/4" bbls onto that receiver. Work fine and no problems with beating up the frame. 1100 bbls are also getting a bit more expensive now days. Any decent barrel on ebay brings over 100 bucks(ribbed). Just bought a super rare 34" Trap bbl for one today. It'll bring a premium on ebay. I also have a 2 3/4" 20 ga 1100(Standard weight) that I use a 3" bbl on but I did do some conversion to the piston etc so I can do it. Love those 1100's. Also bought a 1 of 3000 Commemorative 1100 with all the pretty stuff on it today. Think I'm crazy!!

Skeet, you ever come across many of those 20 ga standard barrels? My first gun that I ever bought way back when I turned 18 was a 20 gauge 1100 with a 26" skeet barrel. I still have it and a number of years ago sent it down to Batesville Gunworks and had them install a threaded choke (Colonial) setup. I bought a 28" Full choke barrel out af a "SALE" basket about 20 years ago for $40. I was thinking of farming it out. The only problem is a Cat pissed on it and smoked the bluing!

Thanks guys, a friend`s turkey gun broke last year, but he has an 1100 with a slug barrel on it. Him being financally challenged, i thought i would help him out and send my barrel to him, since i won`t be using it, now that i know it will work.

Just from my experience. If you put a 3 inch barrel on a 2-3/4 reciever I would ONLY SHOOT 2-3/4 shells for a couple reasons.
#1 the ejection opening in the 2-3/4 gun is shorter than it is on a 3 inch gun #2 the springs are heavier in a 3 inch gun and if you shoot 3 inch shells in a 2-3/4 reciever it is going to slam the bolt back into the reciever too hard and cause damage. Those are the 2 main reasons I would NOT shoot 3 inch shells in a 2-3/4 reciever ev3en with a 3 inch barrel installed Now that being said the answert to your original question is YES it will work and you can definetly shoot 2-3/4 shells and it should cycle fine and everything should work porperly. Just stay away from the 3 inch shells.
