pre model 30 S&W needs scope

An older S&W. It is a 32 Long, 'hand ejector pre-model 30' is being shipped to me tomorrow - I won a bid at an auction site. It has only fixed sights. The revolver is not a collector, but I think it will be a good shooter. I would like to use it on squirrels and rabbits, my eyes are getting old (OK, perhaps all of me).
I believe that a scope would be desirable. I would looking at a couple of WEB sales sights, but I am not comfortable ordering the bases, based on their descriptions. Does anyone have a suggestion? I suspect holes will have to be drilled and tapped, but I don't think that is as much a problem as selecting the correct base. Thanks for you advice ahead of time.
