Late report Mon,Tue, Wed
Got the chance to hunt some of our land in Gloucester County on Monday afternoon. Haven't been able to hunt there in a few years. Theres a nice power line that runs right through the middle of it that some of my buddies see some nice deer on every ML season. Got in the tree around 3 or so. Didn't see a thing until about 4:30 when a buck ran out to the edge of the power line. Got my scope on him enough to see he was a nice buck. Not huge, but nice. 8 points and about 16" or so wide. He ran from one side of the line to the other and kept looking back towards where he came from. About that time another buck came running out from the same spot. A small 4 pointer. I could tell something was really up. They were about 150yds out and I was tempted to try the 8 pointer seeing how I knew I could make the shot if I could get him to sit still long enough. He never did though. They both ran right back in to the same spot where they came from. I've been hunting for a while. I've seen bucks chase other bucks away. I never saw what was in the woods chasing them out but I'm imagining it was either big or mean or both. I'm also imagining there was a doe in heat along with them. Well, the only thing I saw the rest of the evening was a doe that crossed the line a good 2-300 yds on the other end. Went back to the same spot the next morning and hunted until 8am. Didn't see anything and had to go take care of work stuff. Went back and hunted yesterday climbing a tree that was closer to where those two bucks came out on Monday hoping for somewhat of a repeat performance, but all I saw was one bitty ole doe. So, it was exciting there for a minute or so on Monday, but not much after that. Gonna try for a bit here in Ashland in the morning. With the cool weather hopefully they'll be moving. It is raining like theres no tomorrow around here!
