				Turkey loads!!!

Anybody want to share what they are using for turkey loads in their traditional front stuffers? I plan on working up some loads next month for turkeys...probably won't use 'em this year unless I get a good one right from the start. I'm shooting a .62 smoothbore with no choke....plan on using nickle plated #5 shot.

Would be interested on hearing what has worked for other shooters, as well as different means of testing loads for penetration, ect. Thanks in advance............

				Navy Arms Double 12 percussion

I run 100 grains of pyrodex with the same measure of #6 lead over the top. I can not remember what wads I use over the powder but use a single cardboard overshot wad.

Not being a staunch tradionalist I cheat and use a plastic shot cup that I got from Cabelas. It is a hard cup that calls for spliting it but I do not and get a good pattern out to 20-25 yards. I can not remember the manufacturer but Balistics seems to come to mind as being part of the name. I wll be going to the place that stuff is stored tomorrow so will TRY to remember to look for that bag of stuff. EDIT Wooops I guess I did say "TRY TO REMEMBER" didn't I??? I forgot to grab that box of stuff. Last edited by multibeard; 03-28-2011 at 05:24 PM. |

			Mr. 16 gauge,

It seems you are on the edge of the .615" 20 gauge, if you are using plastic wads. I use wonder wads for my .50 smoothbore flinter, 75 grains of 2F Goex and a same measure of shot under a top wad. I have not gotten a turkey yet with #7.5 shot, but then again this is a new year. Adam
