Ithaca Double information.

I have been doing a lot of work on Ithaca doubles. After looking at a site on serial numbers I find there are several models of Ithaca doubles. But I haven't been able to find a reference that appears to be able to define the differences between models. For example, what is a "fleues" model and how is it different than the others? There seems to be great store in owning a fleues model Ithaca. Let me know if you find a good reference book.

Thanks Goody. With the serial number information I found I can at least know which model I am working with. However, I am still looking for a reference that can tell me what the actual mechanical differences are between the models.

Larry, I have a Ithaca o/u. It was made by SKB. Check there information and you may find something. I would be they made it.

buckhunter, I am sorry I have not been more descriptive of what I mean. To me there are O&U and Doubles (SXS). I should remember to use either O&U or SXS. I have both, but it is an old hangup of mine. I am familiar with the SKB guns and where they fit in the scheme of things.

There was a long article a few years ago in the "DOUBLE GUN JOURNAL" magazine, with photos, that explained all the differences in Ithaca SxS's.
I think there are four variations, named after the in-house gun designer. Flues is one of them, Lewis was another. The last model was the NID, which meant New Ithaca Double.

NID was made after 1925 and was a stronger frame than the earlier ones with a stronger lock up..previous to these were the original style frames with design changes by 4 or 5 designers.. Flues Lewis Crass and another I don't remember the name of..They were serialed under 400,000 or so. Mostly they were just prettied up versions if I remember right..Been a long time. I have a NID grade 4E which is very rare. Pretty gun but I really don't see the big deal. I liked the Win 21s better..Parkers too. Not much of a double gun guy.. Although I have a few. Fox guns are nice too. I had an earlier Flues 20 ga double and it was nice and light but couldn't take the amount of shooting I did..so sold it. Double gun journal may be the place to find the info you need

In my collection of 16 ga. I have 4 SxSs made by Ithaca: a Flues, a NID, a Lefever Nitro and a Western Arms Long Range Shotgun. All of these were made by Ithaca, all are different, but I like them all.
