If you load for a .22-250Rem. you can get 4000fps with the 40gr. bullet, a little less with the 45gr. That is pretty close to the velocity you'll get with a .17Rem. and with a heavier bullet no less.
I have both calibers, and while I do like the .17Rem. it can be a fustrating litle bugger. It fouls quite a bit, and is more affected by the wind that the bullets of the .22-250. Anyway half the fun of a new rifle is in the selection process, enjoy! Best wishes.
