I live in suburbia, read, Buffet for Whitetails. The deer are a problem for the garden.
I can keep the deer out of the garden if I do the following: go for a walk about dusk in June. When I see the un alarmed deer, I turn on a portable radio I have with me, make eye contact, think about venison medallions and walk straight for the deer. They freeze, and then they run when I'm about 25 yards away. Then I do my best snort stamp and urinate where the last deer stood. If I do that three or four times in June and urinate regularly around my tomatoes and leave a radio playing at night, the deer pretty much leave the veggies alone. Urinating regularly on its own does not work. Urinating occasionally on the wife's flowers (at her vigorous request) helps a lot. Scent combined with noise helps. So if you're going to pee from your stand, be quiet about it.
