Need some advise!

I decided to buy a new gun, my collection seems to be missing a semi-auto pistol. At the local gunshop I was looking at either a ruger p89 or a Kimber 1911 (Eclipse Custom II) I am really drawn to the Kimber, but I've never really heard of the company. So I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with either? I really just want this as a fairly cheap to shoot pistol for fun at the range. But I don't want to buy something thats going to jam and be a pain.
