Rancid(good grief I like that name) from what I can get as to some instant gun blues..many have Selenium dioxide as an ingredient and aslo some have a copper oxide in the mix. The one prepares the metal the other coats the metal and another component blackens the copper deposit. I surely do like your posts. I used Oxpho on a T-C Hawken rifle many moons ago to blacken the brass fixtures on the stock. I figured those deer would see all that bright flashy brass on the stock. Those cartridge cases are really neat looking. Would make a nice way to display some ammo like in a shadow box or whatever. I have a friend making one of them up for a really nice nickled top break handgun. 32 Rimfire. Think I will do that to some ammo to put in the display. Were they done with oxpho blue??
