Unmarried B.S. and working on my M.S. in biology. My folks were kilt by a grizzly and Iv'e been living with wolves since I was 3. You boys are thinking of Star Trek in your blanket generalization of fans.  And people that condemn something like that are generally closet fans fearing the ridicule of their peers if they are exposed.  I like Star Wars, but don't fret macho-hunting guys;I listen to the Rush show and John Wayne is still my favorite.
