I kinda did the same thing. Instead I used Marine Transom paint. It soaks into the wood making it almost like plastic. I then painted it Forest Green and stenciled the letters 14 on the stock in white paint. Why you ask? Because when I go dove hunting evertbody want to know what the number means.
