Well, I'll assume that using anything besides a shotgun is legal (it is NOT in many places).

Of the two, I'd not use anything smaller than a .22 Magnum. No .17 rimfire at all, and not even a standard .22LR. Turkeys are big, tough birds and hard to put down for good.

The only shot I'd take would be through the wing butts (shoulder). The head is not only very small, but they duck them around a LOT.
