Beaver get conibear-wise in a hurry if they see one of their buddies dead or get caught in one. When that happens you can make a runway set where the conibear is completely submerged. You put a heavy stick over the top of the trap so the beaver will dive under it. If the water is murky, this set will work well. If the water is clear the beaver might still avoid the conibear.

If that happens, you will have to resort to snares or footholds. For some good trapping information, you can google Cathryns Corner. There are some experienced trappers on there.
