Mounting a scope on Savage 24

I have several M24 Savage O/U arms; one is .222 over 20 gauge and another .22 Magnum over 20 gauge. The .22 Mag over 20 gauge says on the barrel, " DO NOT FIRE SHOTGUN BARREL WITH SCOPE ATTACHED." I have a scope on the .222 and fire it with the .222 barrel and 20 gauge routinely with no problems.
