If your limiting yourself to one of the two, I would go with the quarter bore. (Preferably a 25-06)
If your wanting a mule deer rifle specifically, and capable of more, get a 280. Its about as good as it gets ballistically, and using 140gr instead of 100-120 gr, with very little more recoil, in the guns I have shot. Very impressive round. Andy
