what mmwb said is correct.

be careful not to "overbow" yourself.

today's string, carbon arrow and limb technology are far superior to what it was even 25 years ago and the modern, up-to-date recurve of 40# draw weight shooting a carbon shaft arrow is probably equivalent to that of a 45-50# bow of 25 or more years ago.

i would not recommend the use of an expanding broadhead at the lower poundages though, as there are articles as of late disputing their use at lower poundages. many knowledgable bowhunters recommend solid, fixed 2 blade for lower poundage bows.
