"as far as i know" the only "saftey" issue would be if your using an older shotgun, and new steel shot.

It is _possible_ for an older/low quality (IE really cheap import) softer steel barrel, and definately a damascus one, to get a piece of the newer steel shot stuck in the rifiling. this can leadup to other problams, or major problems if ones does so, and you run a slug throug it.

Probably no more than a split barrel, but you never know, and it might not even happen, but there have been instances in the past.

keep your smoothvore for shot, and rifiled for slugs, best, safest bet.

So technically yes you _could_ do it, but i wouldn't. nor would i stand in the same room when you did it.
