My dad blew a generator to pieces a couple of years ago. We had a hurricane come by here 3 years ago this September and it knocked out the power and it knocked down a couple of trees in the backyard. At the time, I was living with my parents and trying to run my office out of their house. So, I had the computer and printer hooked up to the generator and my dad had the 3 refrigerators, the TV, and some lights hooked up to it. I quickly found out that the generator could not meet the needs of the laser printer because every time I tried to print something, I could here the generator struggle and the computer would shut down even with the battery backups in place. That was a pain. So, I stopped trying to print things and printed them at my brother;s house at night. Well, the next day, my dad decided to hook up an electric chainsaw to the generator to clean up one of the small trees that had fallen over. That was all she wrote. The rod from the motor shot out the side of the case and that generator was toast.
