I believe it was in the mid 70's that the total energy cost to produce crops in North America became more than the energy contained in those crops.
Ethanol is a good use for otherwise wasted crops but it will never be a true alternative source of energy for vehicles. It can suplement, but never replace. I don't think growing food to fuel vehicles will ever be a sustainable solution to anything. |
