Mine doesn't do that, Tater.
You might try changing your settings so that a new page opens in a new window rather than a new tab. (Tools, Options, Tabs, check the "new window" box) Close and re-open Firefox to apply the new option. If that fails, export your bookmarks and settings. (if you don't have the add-in Foxmarks, get it. It's great!) Then remove and re-install Firefox from their website.
