I beleave what works for you is great lots of the younger guys now days have grown up with compounds and pins and a release and it is how they learned how to shoot i started with a recurve moved to a compound and still shoot the way i did with a recurve.
There are guys trying to go old school now days and are haveing a hard time learning to shoot instinctive.
I can shoot with pins and have shot other bows with pins i choose not to i like to keep my shots about 30 yards and under yes it has cost me deer but thats hunting .
I have killed deer at 5 yards on the ground with a 50 pound martin tiger to me it is all about geting the deer close.

i once shot an arrow thru the door of a car with a 55 pound compound using a bodkin point...that's been 20 or more years ago...i now use a 40 pound recurve.

i shoot 30", 3555 carbons, 3, 5" helical, feathers, with two blade fixed b'heads sharpened with a KME system, no sights, off the shelf and use a release aid, too boot...
