Llama pistols
A guy offered me a used Llama 1911A1 for $200 but I know nothing about them.
Should I consider this over the RIA for now? And over all, how compatible are the 1911 parts from the different manufacturers?

As I remember the Llama is Spanish made and a knockoff. I have fired a few, very few, and remember feeding problems then again its probably me. Remember Jon, you get what you pay for. Save a little long and get something with a little better quality.

jon,
There is big difference between price and value. A guy had me shoot his Llama .45 a few years ago. The pistol had a sort of vent rib on top of the slide as I recall. The front sight leaned to starboard. The gun owner said, "That front sight may look canted, but it is not." Whatever. I do not own a Llama. Nuff said. Adam

Also my understanding is the llama 1911s will NOT take standard 1911 parts, they ONLY fit llama parts.

There is as GOB said a big difference in a Llama and any colt based 45 or semi auto as they made clones down to 380 size. Tell the guy you'll give him 150 and keep it for playing around if you can afford to do so. If you can't..don't buy.get a good Merican made 45

I had a Llama .45
jon,
I bought it new when I was in college because money was tight and I wanted a .45. First chance I got, it was trade in on a Colt Mark IV Series 70 and I never looked back. All the best... Gil |

Maybe you should have kept that Llama .45 to start foot races. Take care...

I am terribly upset to find out that my Llama that I have had now for over 40 yrs. and shot thousands of times (with nary a problem I can recollect) is junk. I guess I had better go out and sell it.

I have that kind of "Murphy's Law" of luck. And this is from a pawn shop, I guess I should have wrote 'A guy in a pawn shop' on the initial post. But this is a used pistol, and they have a 'no dissemble' policy in that shop, 'sold as is'. With my luck, something would have a hairline crack, or broken, to where I would need a part to assure function.

dovehunter,
We are not saying your Llama Pistol is junk. If it has served you well, I suggest you keep shooting it for another 40 years. I am curious: Do you have any other pistols made by Colt, etc.? I only shot that one Llama and was not impressed. Your experience seems to be very positive, so soldier on. Adam
