Question .358 Win. favorite loads?

Anyone have a favorite load in .358 Winchester? I have not shot this piece yet. I'm getting dies and trimming tools to use some once fired Lake City brass. Found some 180 gr pistol bullets for fire forming purposes. What bullets for Whitetails and which for large Boar? Hope all you extinguished shooters (distinguished) have some ideas.

I've never owned a 358, so I don't have any pet full power loads for you. BUT, I did work up a pair of fun loads for someone else.

For a medium-powered varmint load, try any 158 JHP pistol bullet (I used the Remington) over 21.0 of 4198.

For a good practice load, use any normal-weight cast or jacketed bullet (158-220 gr) over 13.0 of Red Dot.

Favorite .358 Win. load

Quigmy,
I have two favorite loads for my 24" custom rifle based on a Remington 700 action.

1. Winchester case trimmed to 2.015
Sierra 158 gr JHC pistol bullet (#8360)
48.7 gr IMR4064
CCI 200 primer
Standard deviation = 11
Extreme velocity spread = 32
muzzle velocity = 2508
best group size at 100 yards .33
average group size .42

2. Winchester case trimmed to 2.015
Speer 180 gr flat point rifle bullet
50.4 gr of Hodgdon H335
CCI 200 primer
standard deviation = 14
extreme spread = 42
muzzle velocity = 2628
best group size at 100 yards .68
average group size .8

As always if you wish to use this data begin by checking your loading manuals, start low and work up slowly watching for pressure signs.

358 Loads

I have just finished a 358 built on a M-7 action -all stainless and a factory plastic stock with a 22 inch Douglas barrel. I have found a load that shoots reasonably well using 225 Nosler partions. My gun is quite light but is not a tack driver but plenty good enough for deer or whatever. I have a 1.5-5 Weaver on the gun. I get 2444 out of the 225's. good luck with yours.
