.45 Colt shellholders

I have a set of Lyman shellholders, the orange box that has like 9 or 10 of them. When I started loading for the .45 the #11 holder was listed as the one to use. I found that about half the time it was too big. So I tried the other ones and the #7 worked great. That was with PMC and Rem cartridges. I went and bought some new Win. cases and they won't fit the #7. I had to go back to the #11. Anyone else experienced this?

It's pretty common with that old warhorse. I have two or three different holders, for different brands/lots of brass. The older brass was smaller in diameter than the most recent stuff (within the last 25 years or so). But even with new stuff, it sometimes varies enough so that one holder is too tight or too loose.

I've run into that problem with a few calibers. As long as the shellholder is a decent fit, use what works.
