Has anyone bought bows on Ebay?

I want to start shooting traditional. With Xmas coming up the budget is stretched very thin, I see some of these old longbows and recurves on Ebay selling for under $100 and was wondering if anybody has bought them. Looks like its a roll of the dice, you could get a good bow or firewood. Also on http://www.rogueriverarchery.com/ they advertise $79 longbows. I know these won't be a black widow but they might not be bad for a newbie. I appreciate any input......Brad

You might do better just hitting local garage sales or a local dealer if you have one. Occasionally, the latter get used bows on consignment for about the same amount of money as ebay's quoting.

The advantage over mailorder or the like is you can actually examine or handle the bow. It doesn't hurt to shoot it before buying either. If you're on a tight budget, you probably can't afford to waste money no matter how cheap the asking price.

I have bought bows on Ebay and had no problems
Dunno about the other businesses but there are a few good bow builders out there that can make a good product for you.

I HAVE BOUGHT TWO RECURVES ON EBAY AND ONE ON ANOTHER SITE. NO PROBLEMS WITH ANY OF THEM. #1 DON'T GET TOO HIGH OF POUNDAGE. #2 TRY THR BEST YOU CAN BEFORE YOU BUY THAT THE RECURVES DON'T HAVE ATWISTED LIMB. PAWN SHOPS CAN BE A GOOD SOURCE TO PICK UP A BOW AS WELL.

Bows On Ebay

I have purchased three bows over Ebay and each one was exactly as described by the seller (Compound, Recurve and Longbow). My advice would be to look at the person's credentials selling the item. If they deal in bows and firearms and seem knowledgable about their products and have good positive feedback about prior sales thats a good sign. Beware of poeple who advertise the fact they dont about bows and have little or no selling history on Ebay... Good Luck
