looking for a virginia whitetail hunt

My brother and I are looking for a whitetail hunt in Virginia. We are more than willing to shoot does; this is mostly about using our step dad's rifle than anything else.

We are willing to pay for a place to hunt, and we would like to have a place to cut and wrap meat.

I've tried googling but there are literally thousands of guided deer hunts available in Virginia and most are geared towards trophy hunters, which we are not.

Any suggestions?

I've hunted in Virginia a few years, and there's a fair amount of public land to hunt in some areas. As long as you're willing to do some hiking to get back off the road (and you're in good enough shape to do it) you'll have very little competition (we didn't see anyone else, and only heard one other shot). Make sure that if you're trying to fill a freezer that you are allowed to take does in that management unit. Also, call up their department of fish and game. They should be instrumental in recommending areas to hunt. Also, their big game license also includes a bear tag, and in some areas, the seasons overlap. Good luck finding a good place to hunt!

Stay to the eastern part of the state fer does. The mtns have less deer(with the exception of Bedford I hear they are ate up with deer) but they have big bucks that roam them mtns. However, the gun season is only 2 weeks long vs. our 2 month gun season. And we do have plenty of big bucks here.
We also have more doe days in the eastern part of the state.
We do have many seasons that overlap. From Nov-Dec you can hunt elk (use yer deer tags), turkey, bear, bobcat, fox and the just bout everything else. There is also alot of state land & wma's to hunt. Some have cabins you can rent and/or facilities.

Here's the LINK (http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/hunting/) to the VDGIF website. You can see when the does days are and what part of the state has the longest seasons and whatnot.
It'll also tell you where all of the public lands are and which has facilities and cabins. Here, there is 3 kinds of public lands: National, State and WMA's which are mostly operated by the counties they are in.

Wish I could help you out but the Marine Base I hunt only allows bows, muzzles, or shotguns...no rifles....if you decide you just want to hunt, I can hook you up at Quantico, plenty of does and good bucks depending when you come.

I hunt SW Virginia every other year or so. My family has been up in those mountains for over 240 years. I am fortunate in having a lot of farmland and privately owned woods to hunt.
Even on public land, in Wythe and Bland Counties, in the Jefferson National Forrest, I have had good luck with deer hunting.
