#110 and skunks

will a #110 coni in a bucket set be fery effective for catching and cleanly killing skunks?

First off, happy birthday! :)

#110 is probably on the small size for skunk, but I guess it can be done. I'd personally use something along the lines of a #160 or 220.

hmmm, i know the skunk in question is definately on the small side. i've seen it. maybe i'll try the #110.

bud ive been using 110's for bout 3 or 4 years, the 110 is 50 50, ive coght opposums that were cleanly killed that were huge and small ones that where still alive without any harm done to them, id say use them in my opinoin as long as it catches it its good with me. so id use it for old stinkers

awsome, but make sure its a sturdy bucket before u chop out a nick to put the spring in. i ddid that and it was a crappy bucket and it split right down the middle, use old fish or ham or rotten bannans for bait, in fact i cought my first opposum with a rotten bannana. oh and make surethe bait in the oppinging is facing the wind so they can smell it from a long way. if the bucket set doesnt work than use a brick cubbie set

thesingle spring desighn of the #110 won't matter? i notice on all the bucket sets that they use the #220 or #330.

oh i thought u madeyoure own. well to make youre own but a bunch of old wash buckets and cut a notch in the side and slide the spring of the trap in it, i use duke 110 conibears, there the cheapest

no, i'll be making my own. should i use a regular ol' 5 gallon bucket for that little trap? i'm using duke too.

What you are talking about works fine, but in about 9 out of 10 sets the skunk will still release and you will have that lovely odor around.

If it is near your dwelling I would suggest a skunk size live trap and then the skunk will not be able to lift its tail to release. Once caught drop the whole trap into a tank of water or a pond and drown it. Presto.....No smell.

oh, i see. my trap was hit last night but never tripped. there are three notches on the trap. which is the most sensitve?

ALWAYS USE THE LAST ONE, that happend to me many a time, iset it and another notch cought it instead of the animal, bud its to late to be fur trapping unless its for beaver

I would and do use the #160. I find that when caught in a 160 bodytrap ... sometimes the skunk will spew, and somtimes it won't. But every skunk I have caught in the #220 has spewed. Largely due to the area of the jaws ... they will grab farther down towards the skunks belly, instead of just behind the head like the #160. I guess the #220 is squeezing the stuffin out of 'em ... for lack of a better way to put it.

thanks guys. something hit it last night but managed to pull itself from the trap. maybe a big coon? got a bridger #160 on the way.

an old granddaddy coon couldnt fit his head into into a space of 4 inches a younster coon could, thousends of things could have happend, some kid tripped it, or they pulled out, or the wind trippd it, u may not belive me but ants can also spring coni's, ive seen them do it they all get on there and the movement set it off, ,ake soft dirt ahead of it and when hey come and trip it you know who or what it is

Yes, a 110 will kill a skunk, if it's a good 110 with strong springs. Living in CA, I would guess you're probably restricted to the size of bodygrip trap you're allowed to set in a bucket. You might want to check into that, as a 110 or 120 maybe the largest legal to use.

A 5 gallon bucket is too large to use a 110 with. Use either the newspaper holders you see in rural areas, or make one out of wood to accomodate the 110.

The 110 is a harder trap to stabilize in a box set than the two-springed 120. But, you can do it by bending the single spring up in the box's notch. Then, drill a hole through the top and bottom of the box. Slip a rod through the holes and through the inside edge of the trap.
