what do you think about ther 6.5/06 seeing as how you can find 270 and 3006 rifles used laying in street gutters and garbage cans everywhere.
so so easy to come up with a donor rifle in these calibers its not even funny. or 6mm06 in my mind this is way to close to 2506. but then so is the 6mmrem or even the 243. 90-100gr bullets are very close in perfromance. right now im not even pushn my 100gr bullets over 3250 out of my 2506. ive also begun to consider this alight varmit rifle 22" barrel. as im sitn now i have two heavy weight 224 rifles. why do i need 3rd heavy varmit rifle. ?????? i like 22" barrels and the 6mm calibers they seem to be about the perfect do all size bullets. would i miss the 4"s of barrel hell no i wouldnt. maybe i would if you told me 4"s less meant i was 1000fps slower. but but. i could run 24" barrel pretty easy. i think 24"s is the best compromise when wanting a carry/vt rifle. i can honestly say ive never missed a few inches off any barrel nor have i noticed a few additional inches. i just dont shoot far enough or shoot through chronys enough to care i guess. if i build custom the barrel is going to be 24"s fluted and have taper about like the remington sendero. itl actualy have the save taper. i like the taper alot. the rifle will be built mainly for killing critters from 50-500yds as a maximum. ounce a good load is developed itl probly never punch paper again. |

The 6.5-06 is a real good choice in two fold 1st like you said a good action to build it on is readily available and 2nd you have greater selection of bullets. You can shoot anything from screaming fast varmint wieghts to a well constructed game weight bullet. I would suggest for a game bullet using the Swift Scirocco 130gr it has a BC of .571 this is the bullet I'm basing my .264 Win Mag custom project off of. With the 6.5-06 and a 24" barrel you would be able to push this bullet at 3000+ plenty flat traveling there. One thing though if you go this route have your gunsmith throat your chamber out a little more than standard about .180 so you seat these bullets out a little farther. Just my opinion thats all hope this helps!

Very true but you must keep in mind if you are planning on reaching out and touching something you need retained energy. With the heavier 6.5mm bullets you will have more energy out farther and your bullets have higher B.C.'s and S.D.'s wich equates to flatter trajectories and better penatration. There is nothing wrong with the .25 caliber or the .24 caliber It's just that if your looking for something to reach out to 500 yards shoot the round that will give you the least drop, defection and most energy. To me the 6.5 is the way to go no recoil, flat shooting and hits real hard for a bullet it's size and wieght.

changes agaaaaaain shes gona be a widlcat. ive picked up 6br brass then will be 6br dies then bullets then haver it rebarreld with alittle bit oversize chamber for bench rest caliber. there no way im turning knecks to fit the tight br chamber. the 6br actualy isnt a widlcat this is a facotry caliber and theres facotry ammo available but not much. mines is going to to reamed to the brx chamber. this is just slightly improved br case. increases case capicity to by about 10" and get 95-105s right in the 3000fps ball park. barrels either going to be twisted 10" or 8" havent decided yet. and lenght will be 24"s all the velocity figures ive seen are comeing from 24" barrels i see no reason to go longer. 24 will get me the speeds i want and be fairly easy to pack. im thinking a straight taper #7 barrel. thats fairly beefy and is close to rem sendero taper. bulletts used will range from 75-105grs ounce i come up with about 700 bucks exstra from somewhere the rifle is going to be sent to pacnor. well theres where id like it to go. finale details will be finalized ounce ive got the cash in hand. ohhhhhhhh boy this fun. Get rid of the Ruger 77 action. they are almost impossible to get
bedded properly. I know, I have tried it on 4 of them. They are a royal pain in the ass. They won't tune up like a Win, Rem or Sako etc.. type actions. You don't see many long range shooting cups being won by Ruger 77 actions. A Ruger 77 is the LAST rifle that I would try to accurize. JMHO. |

cant do it just cant do it.
ruger rifles are with me to stay. my unbedded 2506 ruger m77 mkII shoots on par with the 22/250 vs sf rem i used to have. this rifle is not bedded or even free floated. i also shoot a m77 mKII in a 3006 rugers facotry synthetick stock and facotry loads literaly shocked me. i couldnt belive how acurate it is. still dont. im also not going out to win anything. im just doing it to do it have something truly unigue. i think ill be the first kid on the block to have brx or even the first kid in town. |

If Ruger floats your boat good just go with what works best for you. As it is with rifles not one rifle fits everyone because if it did we wouldn't have near as much to discuss. Ya know

and wed all drive chevys. heck with yer fords
![]() my 2506 is a screamer, its box stock other than me stoneing the trigger and reloading for it. yesterday i pulled off a couple groups that are nipn on the heels of my 220. one group was probly even better than the 220. made me think man i better play with the swift some more. cant have my 25 out shoot it. im off to shoot some 300yd grs through the 25 to see how well the 75 sierras are flying. also want to see the trajectory. im betn were going as flat or flatter than the 220 right now. |

it is kinda big for varmits. though i have found 100gr nosler to do very well on coyote pelts at midrange and longer. even at 100yds and closer ive had good luck with them keeping pelts together..
the caliber has stuck to me like glue on hot rubber this rifle is like my right hand. i can varmit hunt and deer hunt with one load one rifle . i think that is the reason i like it so much it just does everything very well and ive become very well aquainted with it. this rifle has more varmit kills past 350yds than my other 224 varmit rigs combined. |

Yo Evan,
To keep the weight down go with a small contour 6.5 or if you just gotta a 6mm bbl at least 28" long. For a cartridge, neck down the 270 WSM. W/the 6.5 cal yer good for any animal in ID. W/the 6 yer good for almost any animal in ID. If you want to get really hot, neck that case down to .224. Sweet ![]()
