Which Range Finder

I have a range finder question. I am looking at the Bushnell yardage pro, and the Nikon laser 800, both are in the same price range, however, I wanted to hear some feed back from anyone with either model.

I'm a Bushnell fan, have the Yardage Pro 1000. If I were buying another one, I'd go the Leica 1200.

Hope this isn't too late. I just recently spent about half a day trying out range finders. I tried Bushnell, Nikon, Leica and a few other bino/rangefinder combos. Had my heart set on one of the Bushnells and I'm glad I tried them all first.

The buttons on the Bushnells on average were much more difficult go depress than on the other models. I also had a much more difficult time aquiring distances with the Bushnells. Not that I couldn't get them, but either there was more of a delay or I had to shoot to the opject more. I was hitting a single hay bail at 436 yards with the Nikons and the Leicas every time. I would get a reading once every five or six times I pushed the button with the Bushnell.

The optics on the Bushnells weren't as good or as powerful in most cases either. Most that I looked at were 4x maginfication. The crosshairs can cover an animal at longer ranges. I honestly couldn't find anything I didn't like about any of the Nikons. The only complaint I had about the Leica was the red display. It seemed to be kind of transparent and when pointing in the direction of the sun you almost couldn't see the display. But they were dead on every time, very consistent and shot long distances.

I ended up going with the Nikon 800 and have been 100% satisfied with it to this point. Good luck in your search. My advice it to try as many as you can and see if you like and upright or a horizontal model and see how the layout of the buttons fits you.

Leica 1200...hands down. Got mine on ebay and it wasn't all that much more than the Nikon or Bushnell. Precise instrument

My first range finder was a Bushnell and it went south in a very short time. I now have a Nikon and it`s done alot better for me, but I`m still not real happy with it. You get what you pay for with range finders and I`m considering getting another one, but don`t know what yet.

one of the things you have to consider is the read out.in a low light condition most are extremely hard to read due to the color of the read out. leica has a red read out and can be seen at all times

I have the yardage pro 1000 and have no complaints. It has worked great for the last several seasons. Just replaced the battery for the first time last year. "Wouldn't leave home without it"
