Prior to the internet, I became a fan of the 16 gauge when I had a problem with my 12 gauge double and had to use the "club gun" on a shooting preserve on time, which just happend to be a 16 gauge pump (The use of the gun was free, but I had to buy the shells.....at greatly inflated prices! ). Anyway, I became a fan of the gauge and bought a couple of shotguns in the gauge. We were on a preserve hunt one time and I was hot....I couldn't miss! One of the dogs flushed a chukar and the other three hunters in the group opened up on it with their 12s and missed. When they were empty, I pulled up on the bird (now a long, long ways away) and pulled the trigger....and the bird dropped with a golden BB in the head. The other fellows jaws dropped, and I just acted like it was an every day occurance. One of the other fellows said, rather snidley, "Allright, Mr. 16 gauge.........."
And the name kinda stuck ever since!
