The 6.8 is a blown out, necked down, slightly shortened 30 Rem. Case capacity is reported in the 35 grains of water range. For all effects and purposes, it is the same class as the 6.5 Grendel (a necked up, slightly lengthened 6PPC, which is a blown out, necked down 7.62x39).
The level of power is probably best compared to the 7/30 Waters. The most interesting part of the 6.8 is that Barnes made a 110 gr. TSX for it. That combination makes it, in my mind, perfect for someone looking for a good balance between shootability and effectiveness. For things like southern deer at normal ranges, it should be just peachy fine. JMO, Dutch.
