Barrel Lapping
Well probably about $15. You can lap a barrel several ways, but using a commerial bore paste like JB's is the best first start I think.
Put the paste on a patch or sponge and start slowly working your bore in short strokes from breech to muzzle. Just wrap a rubber band around your ramrod to know how far down you have traveled in order to try to keep the lapping consistent. If this is not doing it to your satisfaction, then you can get some lapping compround (cutting compound) from an automotive shop with grease mixed in and try that. If that isn't working, then a dry cutting compound of fine then coarse might be tried. Lastly would be the use of a bore sized bullet with lapping compound rubbed over it as evenly as you can get it and fire it. Three or four of these should tell the tale. Clean your barrel thoroughly and then try shooting your gun. If all else fails, well if all fails, well, a good used gun from a friend that you can shoot first would be my fisrt choice recommendation. Good luck, Much Aloha.. ![]() |
