The man was "bat-sh*t" insane, but I'll miss the way he could turn a phrase...
I ran into--literally--The (Late) Good Doctor at the Memphis Airport in the summer of 1987. I was strolling over to the correct gate for my transfer flight to Paducah Kentucky, and we nearly knocked each over. Managed to sidestep the hurried H S Thompson (and lovely wife) just in time. I decided against asking for an autograph & also compliment him on Great Shark Hunt & F&L in Las Vegas as Dr. Thompson seemed to be really plowed and not in a good mood. (His wife politely said "Pardon us", HST slurred something unintelligible.) Well, I'm going to miss him...  (now to update my taglines....)
