I agree 100% with what Rocky pointed out about today's powders being slower.
Too, in 'Thee Olden Days' when Hoppe's #9 was the standard bore solvent, a lot of high velocity cartridges supposedly went thru barrels faster than they do today. I have always suspicioned that some of those 'burned out' barrels back in the day quit shooting from severe copper fouling, not throat erosion.
