Yup, things aren't much different anywhere, my friend.
Idaho (just a few miles from here) always opens its pheasant season the same day as the Utah rifle deer opener - specifically to keep down the numbers of Utah bird hunters who go to Idaho for opening day. Thay also charge almost double for the bird license valid during the first nine days of the pheasant season. After those nine days (two weekends) the non-res license cost is MUCH cheaper. They aren't dumb.
