we used to use 111 Trichlorofloroethane to clean cicuit board after soldering them to get the flux off.

Even 111 has a more enviro freindly version now, I can't remember what they switched to but it wasn't a lot of difference in the smell or the cleaning ability, it would still make you loopy feeling if you scurbbed a wef too mnya circuit broads that dya
