The better factory loading of the 444 used a sturdier 265-gr bullet. It performed MUCH better on game than the 240s. I'm not sure if the current factory stuff uses 265s or 240s, but unless it's the 265, I'd think twice about using it on bear. Deer are probably fine with 240s, but not bear or wild hog IMHO. Guns in 444 are a bit hard to find, and can be dearly priced - so SOMEBODY must like 'em! Maybe that's enough info right there, huh?
