Hmmmm....I understand the spirit of your concern over what you consider to be a "gem" that you think shouldn't be mistreated but in my eyes a Colt 1911 70 series is a sloppy POS and I wouldn't think twice about tearing it down to build a race gun if that's what I wanted to do. If I decided to take a hacksaw to a Grade V Browning Citori to use it as a home defense gun, what busines is that of yours?
 My suggestion would be that if you want to save all the collectibles, which would be wonderful I might add, then pony up the dough and fill your safe. Don't legislate and chastise a fellow gun owner for his personal desires. To each his own. .02
