When I lived in Florida, they had a real problem with tourist crime. It seems all the rental cars back then were issued license plates with a "Z" prefix. It didn't take the criminals long to figure out that "Z" cars were an easy mark: lots of cash and no weapons.
They changed that license idea right quick. Today, if you have a CCW from almost any other state, you can apply for and receive a temporary Florida CCW for your trip there. Now THAT is progress. The first time a tourist in a rental car pulled down on a bad guy, that whole scene changed pronto. Now the bad guys avoid tourists for the most part (or so I'm told). This sounds like a good, common sense law to me. It won't hurt anybody but crooks - but that's exactly what liberals have against it, I suppose.
