Deerman,

I saw an old Currier & Ives sort of print of a woods camp in Winter circa 1750. There were several French Couers des bois (pardon my French for "Crusiers of the woods". ) I saw one guy had a sash around his waist over his coat (capote?). I have a long red plaid scarf that goes twice around over my Hudson Bay coat. I wear it in the Primitive season after Christmas and since we have no orange requirement for that season, it seems safer to have the red material than buckskin. Look at the photo in the Bushy Run Battle Reenactment thread on this site for an illustration. Hope this helps.

Adam
