I definitely agree with Rocky on Paco Kelly's load data, not just for the .358 Win., but for the .35 Whelen as well. However, I haven't done much witht he .358 Win. so far, ut I did work up to Mr. Kelly's 250 gr. load in the .35 Whelen using H-335. I saw no pressure signs upon reaching his max load in three different rifles chambered to the Whelen using 250 gr. Speer Hot-cores and 250 gr. Hornady spire points and round nosed bullets. Velocity was close to, or a bit over 2550 FPS for all three bullets as I recall.
I don't necessarily agree that the .358 is loaded closer to .35 Rem. than .308 levels, but I do feel as Mr. Kelly does that it, and the .35 Whelen are not loaded to their full potential and can be improved by careful handloading.
Even left alone, the .358 is still a darn good, if under appreciated hunting cartridge.
The funny thing is, those that get one and try it on game find out what a eally fine round it is. It's even better when properly handloaded.
