			My only binoculars are Swarovski's in 7x30.   I got them a few years back on sale for around $500.   I hunt mostly timber and very rarely need to look at anything beyond a mile.    Mostly I use them to distinguish an antler from a tree branch in thick timber.   For this use, they're perfect. 
		
		
		
		
		
		
			For the kind of looking that you have in mind you'll want more than this, at least 8 power. My favorite elk guide uses 10x50 Swarovski's. He has them on his eyes more than hanging around his neck. Cabela's has a deal on 8x30 Swarovski's right now. If I needed a pair of all around glass for under $800, this is what I'd get. You'd be set for life and so would the person you leave them to.
